The Microsystem Technologies journal, since ever, has taken up the challenge of reporting and emphasizing the advancement of Microtechnologies and Nanotechnologies. After more than three decades of time, this task is far from being complete. The proliferation of application areas in which micro- and nano-structured sensors, actuators, transducers and materials are being employed, together with the advancement of technologies, both intending the hardware and software domains, are making the scientific area of Microtechnologies and Nanotechnologies lively as never before. This editorial is going to highlight some of the articles published in the first quarter of 2026 in the Microsystem Technologies journal that, according to the Editor view, fit particularly well into the scenario sketched above.
