This chapter explores the intersection of generative AI and personalized learning, emphasizing the role of educators and examining the application of large language models (LLMs) in crafting personalized learning paths. The chapter examines the perception and utilization of new generative-AI-based tools by educators, highlighting the practical challenges of developing coherent and tailored learning paths aligned with distinct learning objectives. To address these challenges, the chapter presents a digital tool called PolyGloT. PolyGloT aids educators in creating effective lesson plans by integrating AI with a collection of Open Educational Resources (OERs). The tool offers modular APIs and a user interface for tailoring educational materials into learning paths that meet specific learning objectives and individual learners’ needs. The use of generative AI functionalities within this tool has been evaluated through a user study, highlighting educators’ perspectives on using generative AI for creating personalized learning paths in their practice.
