Digital visualization technologies, including 3D modeling and virtual/augmented reality, have revolutionized our critical engagement with the humanities. However, the relationship between humanities and technology has not been without its challenges. The visualization of the transformation of physical spaces over time was originally documented through traditional architectural design, largely based on two-dimensional technical drawings (floor plans, elevations, sections). The ability to virtually reconstruct highly fragmented contexts not only raises new questions and areas of inquiry but also makes complex content and issues accessible to a non-specialized audience. Through this methodological investigation, we hope to advance the analyses of religious places both real and virtual.
