AI literacy is a popular topic in education and it is increasingly recognized as a critical area of study for the future. However, despite the growing importance of AI in our society, access to AI education remains limited for many individuals, particularly those from underrepresented groups. The importance of an inclusive AI education lies indeed in ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to understand and participate in the development and responsible use of AI technologies. Promoting inclusivity and providing AI education can help young generations develop and use AI in ethical and responsible ways, ensuring that the benefits of AI are widely distributed and its risks effectively managed. From lessons learnt in the field during the design and the development of a K12 AI curriculum implemented in disadvantages countries in Europe, we present potential challenges and opportunities to bring AI education in schools with equity and inclusion as guiding principles.
