In this paper, a novel low power, differential ring voltage-controlled oscillator was proposed based on the Park- Kim voltage-controlled oscillator with high speed and a wide tuning range. In order to obtain a negative resistance, two capacitors were added to the circuit to form a latch and at the same time eliminate power dissipation of the conventional cross coupled latch circuit. By applying these negative resistances, a saturated ring oscillator with a good phase noise performance is generated. Furthermore, two separate paths for control voltage were added to the circuit to obtain a wider and more linear tuning range. The proposed VCO has a tuning range of 1.65GHz to 2.85GHz.

Abstract
In this paper, a novel low power, differential ring voltage-controlled oscillator was proposed based on the Park- Kim voltage-controlled oscillator with high speed and a wide tuning range. In order to obtain a negative resistance, two capacitors were added to the circuit to form a latch and at the same time eliminate power dissipation of the conventional cross coupled latch circuit. By applying these negative resistances, a saturated ring oscillator with a good phase noise performance is generated. Furthermore, two separate paths for control voltage were added to the circuit to obtain a wider and more linear tuning range. The proposed VCO has a tuning range of 1.65GHz to 2.85GHz.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
