In this presentation, we consider, first, the ways enabling the detection of low concentrations of nitroderivatives of aromatic compounds. Another important problem solved in this investigation is the metrological certification of the pre-concentration of nitroderivatives using standard equipment of gas chromatography. It was demonstrated that the application of preliminary concentration of analyte (mono- and dinitrotoluene) using nano-composite material based on zirconia and hafnia makes possible the discovery of these compounds with the limit of detection of ~ 1 ppt (10-12). This result was obtained with the application of photoionization detector. It was also shown that the similar limit of detection could be gotten with the application of high-frequency quartz microbalance (QMB) gas sensors operating at 100 – 150 MHz.
