L'articolo analizza il contributo che le narrazioni possono portare in ambito clinico, alla luce delle riflessioni della medicina narrativa e dell'etica narrativa nel dibattito presente e di alcune ricerche condotte in merito.
This chapter discusses stories of illness within the clinical process. Narratives produced by patients and healthcare teams have long been an integral part of the clinical process. These stories enable caregivers to grasp the reality of illness, and they have an important moral value. The “narrative approach” which differs from “evidence-based medicine” is important within the bioethical debate. This chapter explores metaphors of health and disease in narratives, the return of the humanities in clinical practice, the moral imagination, the importance of a phenomenology of illness, and care among moral life. The chapter also includes three individual stories which shed light on the experiences of illness and caretaking

Abstract
This chapter discusses stories of illness within the clinical process. Narratives produced by patients and healthcare teams have long been an integral part of the clinical process. These stories enable caregivers to grasp the reality of illness, and they have an important moral value. The “narrative approach” which differs from “evidence-based medicine” is important within the bioethical debate. This chapter explores metaphors of health and disease in narratives, the return of the humanities in clinical practice, the moral imagination, the importance of a phenomenology of illness, and care among moral life. The chapter also includes three individual stories which shed light on the experiences of illness and caretakingI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
