Abstract

In this paper we provide the methodological foundations and the rationale for approaching travel destination recommendation as a problem solving activity. In this context Case-Based Reasoning is presented both as a cognitive plausible approach and as an integrated paradigm to build advisory systems. We how an integrated solution, called Trip@dvice, that relies firstly on CBR but exploits also other methodologies such as cooperative query answering and collaborative filtering by-content. This methodology has been applied in the development of two systems that will be briefly illustrated to stress how custom solutions can be derived from the same basic methodology. Finally we will summarize the most important findings of various validation activities and comment major future line of research
