This paper presents the architecture of TOTEM, a VLSI chip containing 32 processors operating in parallel to achieve high computational bandwidth. The chip had been fabricated in a standard 1.2 µm CMOS technology and has been housed in two neural boards: one for the PC ISA bus, and one for the VME bus. Tests have shown that the boards are completely functional. The resulting system is very flexible and can be used in several computational contexts. This paper presents the use of the TOTEM chip as a hardware implementation of neural networks and of fuzzy controllers. The high flexibility of the chip permits different neural network configurations and different specifications for a wide family of fuzzy controllers

Abstract
This paper presents the architecture of TOTEM, a VLSI chip containing 32 processors operating in parallel to achieve high computational bandwidth. The chip had been fabricated in a standard 1.2 µm CMOS technology and has been housed in two neural boards: one for the PC ISA bus, and one for the VME bus. Tests have shown that the boards are completely functional. The resulting system is very flexible and can be used in several computational contexts. This paper presents the use of the TOTEM chip as a hardware implementation of neural networks and of fuzzy controllers. The high flexibility of the chip permits different neural network configurations and different specifications for a wide family of fuzzy controllersI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
