Abstract

In this paper we address the development of a system for the multilingual automatic generation of instructions in the administrative field. English, Italian and German have been taken as target languages and pension forms as target domain. We describe the knowledge resources required to produce coherent and cohesive instructional texts, taking into account the distinction between knowledge about how to communicate in a specific domain and general communication knowledge. To represent domain dependent communication knowledge we introduce the notion of communication schemata as a variant of schemata taking into account the central role of intentions in human communication. We illustrate some types of language dependent variations that a multilingual generation system should be able to cope with
