The goal of this brief paper is to introduce the European project FESTA (Female Empowerment in Science and Technology Academia), in which the Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), Trento, is involved as Italian partner of a broader consortium. After sketching a general overview of the project, we will enter into some details describing (1) analyses conducted in FESTA and actions taken within it, especially with respect to recruitment processes and perceptions of scientific excellence connected to them; (2) initiatives designed for sensitizing FBK personnel and engaging them in the formulation of new policies towards an improvement of the organizational life with respect to gender equality and balance. We will briefly conclude with some reflections about the real possibilities of success for projects like FESTA, aimed at structural changes in scientific organizations in the gender perspective.
